We hope this fun mini film dosent offend anyone, it was the idea of a 82 year old gentleman who thought it was hillarious. With his help 2 of our young people put it together.

Welcome Tradition
After meeting with the older peoples group on Alder Road - one of the target areas - we arranged a games night at the local public house - The Welcome Tavern. Liza and Dave the Landlady and Landlord were very supportive and keen to get involved as a community project. This turned out to be the perfect venue as it is in the centre of the estate we are targeting so involves older residents who do not attend the Wednesday sessions. Liza provided a pie and pea supper (also sandwiches) as traditional refreshments. 8 young people took part in traditional games with the older people, all were very well behaved and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. 4 staff members were in attendance and enjoyed it as much as everyone else. Jake - one of our young people - was totally obsessed with domino's. Non of the young people had seen bagatelle before either so it was most entertaining. We also took round questionnaires to do with knife crime to help with the research on a project we are running and including in the linking lives project.
A really successful evening, a big thank you to all who took part and especially to the Welcome Tavern for hosting the evening - we will be back in the near future for more joint activities. Due to the success we are hoping to repeat the sessions at least once a month.

Shop Mobility
I have had a meeting with Dianne from Shop Mobility based in Alfreton. We are looking at doing an accessibility survey of Belper around Elderly or disabled people. The young people will carry out the survey and assist the members (elderly people)around the shops or other places they wish to visit. This is only at talking stage yet but we will be looking positively at running the project. Will keep you updated as I know more.
Alder Road Group
Well I thought I had found out what is happening in Belper for Older people, but I was pleasantly wrong. I found a group who meet in the centre on Parks Estate every week, I have met with them quite a few times to date - they are a wonderful and pro-active group who live in one of my target areas - perfect. I never tire of hearing their stories! I have not been able to arrange for the young and old to meet officially as yet but with the planned Welcome Tradition nights this will bring them together. I look forward to working with the groups and hopefully bringing my 3 older people groups together too.
Welcome Tradition
Here it is at last, our first evening activity as requested by the older generation. "Andrea" they said "not being funny but there are loads of coffee mornings and lunches in the day we can go to but nothing in an evening". So that was the beginning. I had a meeting with the Landlady (Liza) at the Welcome Tavern on Mill Lane - this is on the edge of one of my target estates, Tuesday nights are pretty quite in there so we decided to give it a go. We will be doing traditional pub games such as cards, dominoes and darts, we have also got hold of 2 very very old bagatelle games!! Liza is putting on a pie and pea supper (with sandwiches too) so we are hoping for a good turn out from both generations - I will keep you posted on this. If it is successful we intend to run it on a monthly basis using different themes, already suggested are computer games, beetle drive, bingo and sing a long / music night.

Working Groups
The groups we have connected with up to December 2008 are; The Cottage Project (Town Centre), The Thursday Group (Town Centre), Thorntons Field Dog Walkers (Town Centre). Although these groups are classed as Town Centre groups - the members/participans are residents from the 2 target estates.
Sure Start group - this is based on the Parks Estate (target area) and was unheard of until the beginning of November, they have become on of the core groups to work with. This is expanding to the two public houses on the Parks Estate which will include the elderly male population in a better way, the meeting groups are predominantly female.
In the New Year we will be strengthening these links, running outings and visits as well as continuing with the research and discussion projects as these sessions get the generations talking and understanding eachother. We will also be working to make links more directly with groups on the Whitemoor Estate (target area) from Spring.
